Here you can find detailed information about the three options when traveling to Reggio Calabria by plane.

Reggio Calabria is served by Aereoporto dello Stretto ( www.aeroportodellostretto.it/ ).

There are now three options when traveling by plane:

  1. fly to Naples and then take the train (~4,5h) to Reggio Calabria
  2. fly to Lamezia Terme and take either the train (~2h) or shuttle bus (~1,5h) to Reggio Calabria
  3. fly to Reggio Calabria directly
Flying to Reggio Calabria with Alitalia
The Italian national operator Alitalia offers one flight per day to/from Rome and one flight per day to/from Milan until September 30.
Direct flight from Rome to Reggio Calabria AZ 1157 with approx 1h10m duration

Direct flight from Milan to Reggio Calabria AZ 1195 with approx 1h35m duration

Flying to Naples and Lamezia Terme

Antoher alternative is to fly to Naples or Lamezia Terme and take either the train ot the shuttle bus (possible only from Lamezia Terme). Please find all details below:

Flying to Naples

For most European Cities the easiest and cheapest option when traveling to Reggio Calabria is flying to the Aeroporto Internazionale di Napoli and then taking the train to Reggio Calabria (train ride takes ~4,5h).

Naples is a wonderful city that is perfekt for a short stay. Explore the city for one day and then, maybe on the next day, continue by train to Reggio Calabria.

Alternative: Reggio Calabria can be reached from Naples by car (a possibility is to rent a car in Naples, vistit the Amalfi coast and then drive to Reggio Calabria).

Flying to Lamezia Terme

Lamezia Terme International Airport is the second-closest airport (126 km from Reggio Calabria). Besides Alitalia, many other airlines operate with both domestic and foreign connections at this airport. Alitalia is flying 4 times a day from Rome to Lamezia. Please note that the number  of flights per day might change.

From Lamezia Terme to Reggio Calabria you can take either shuttle bus (~1,5h) or the train (~2h).

Shuttle bus to Reggio Calabria (main train station)

A cheap shuttle service is available, covering most flight (arrival/departure) times from and to Lamezia Airoporto every day from Monday, August 28 to Saturday, September 2, 2017 between Lamezia and Reggio di Calabria. The detailed time table and booking information can be found here.

Train to Reggio Calabria

If you do not want to use shuttle bus you can instead use the train to Reggio Calabria. The timetable and booking can be done here .

The train ride takes about 1h9-1h39 to Reggio di Calabria Centrale (main train station).

Alternative: Reggio Calabria can be reached from Lamezia Terme by car (Highway A3 Salerno-Reggio Calabria).
